Unique Movies Can Boost Pupils’ Reading Proficiency

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 12:01 am

Does your child read at a proficient reading level? National statistics paint a bleak picture.

According to the National Center for Educational Statistics, 90 percent of eighth-graders in Washington, D.C., 81 percent in New Mexico, 80 percent in Mississippi and Nevada, 78 percent in Louisiana, California and Hawaii, 74 percent in Texas, and 73 percent in Florida were reading at a level below proficiency in 2003. At least 63 percent of eighth-graders in 32 other states read at a level below proficiency.

To assist educators and parents in helping children become more proficient in reading, SFK Media Specially For Kids Corp. provides an innovative learning program called ReadEnt. It blends reading with entertaining movies to teach and improve vocabulary and comprehension. These Reading Movies use a patented technology called “Action Captions,” which show each spoken word on-screen, in real-time, as a character speaks.

According to SFK Media, this type of captioning is effective in improving the rate of vocabulary development and comprehension. The words become ingrained in the children’s minds and, therefore, both reading and spoken language skills develop naturally.

“[Students] watching these Reading Movies, even though they think they are just watching a movie that is entertaining, … are comprehending words. They are reading whether they realize that they are or not,” said Chelsee Atkins, an educator and reading specialist in Florida. “If they sit down and watch a couple of these movies each week, they are spending 10 hours a week reading.”

ReadEnt’s Reading Movies are available as interactive DVD programs for use on the TV or computer and include such classic titles as “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” “Tales of Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Trojan Horse.” They can be used in a variety of different teaching configurations: as a shared experience on a single television monitor; as a guided activity, where a group of students interact on their own computers; and as a one-to-one tutorial, in which the teacher or parent assesses the child’s comprehension and vocabulary recognition.

“Learning is playing in its best sense, and entertainment should be learning,” said Joy Esterberg, a language skills specialist at Baruch College in New York. “This program is a wonderful marriage between learning and entertainment.”

What Are Trademarks?

Different companies, products and services have different trademarks but they are all aimed at creating a distinct symbol that will identify that particular product or company. The use of trademarks has legal implications and it is protected by the common law as well as Federal laws.

A trademark owner is entitled to the exclusive use of the trademark in the product specifically intended to be identified by the trademark or to other related product which he owns.

The trademark user and owner can register his trademark with the Patent Office. Any trademark can be registered for as long as it is not own by anyone and that the entity seeking its registration is already using or is planning to use the trademark in the future. However, unregistered trademarks are still protected under the common law as long as the owner can establish his use of the trademark.

A trademark can be a word or combination of words or symbols that differentiates a certain products from the others. Trademarks are different from patents and copyrights in the sense that a copyright is geared towards the protection of original works of art including music or literary works while a patent is geared towards the protection of an invention.

Why should individuals or companies register their trademarks if these are already protected by law even if they are unregistered? Registration of trademarks is encouraged because the fact of registration serves as legal and practical notice to the public that it is already being used and owned by another. The owner can also sue another entity in Federal Court, for using a registered trademark. Such registration can also be used as a basis for registering the same trademark in other countries.

Anyone can already use the trademarks sign TM: or the service mark SM even if the marks have not yet been registered.

However, the Federal symbol of registration can only be used after the mark has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Registration of trademarks or service marks can be done through the internet. After submitting the form online, the registrant can expect an immediate reply or issuance of an initial receipt from the Trademark Office. Applications can also be delivered to the Trademark Office.

The registration process is actually easy and self explanatory that there is no need to hire a lawyer. You must however comply with all the requirements for registration for a quick processing of your application.

Beverage Company Sponsors Teen

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 6:08 am

As part of an effort to contribute to the community that has added to its success, Fire Mountain Beverage Co. recently sponsored this year’s L.A. Watts Summer Games, the largest high school athletic competition in the nation.

“Our goal here is to support elite high school athletes by giving back to the same markets that support our sales,” said Anthony Miller, chief executive officer of Fire Mountain Beverage. “This event helps to accomplish one of our objectives by promoting healthy living through education.”

Since the passage of the Pupil Nutrition, Health and Achievement Act of 2001, California schools have banned the sale of sugared, carbonated beverages and are moving toward juices, certain sports drinks, diet sodas and bottled water. And recently, major beverage distributors have followed suit, agreeing to stop selling sugary drinks to the nation’s public schools.

Fire Mountain’s Five O2 oxygenated bottled water is enriched with vitamins A and C, niacin, potassium and calcium, making it a more nutritious alternative to beverages containing sugar, caffeine, sodium and carbohydrates. Five O2 also comes in fruit flavors that are appealing to consumers of any age. By sponsoring the games, the company hopes to show teen athletes that they have healthier options with which to quench their thirst.

The L.A. Watts Summer Games started in 1968, three years after racially charged riots tore the Watts neighborhood apart. The goal was to foster understanding and camaraderie among the area’s high school students. The games now include competitions for both boys and girls in soccer, track and field, volleyball, tennis, cheerleading, music, art and poetry and more. Nearly 200,000 young people have participated in the games to date.

To promote the achievements of high school students in areas other than athletics, scholastics were added to the mission of the games. In 1992, a scholarship program was established for youth dedicated to serving the community through volunteerism.

Rock DJ

Before I left Singapore, my aspired DJ-to-be Malaysian buddy, Chee Kiang, burnt for me my favorite Ministry of Sound The Annual 2005 Deluxe CD. He attempted some modifications to the hits, not without the Zouk influence, the club everyone talks about in Singapore where he is a frequenter.

I didnt quite feel any distinction from the original record.

Perhaps he is not too familiar with music editing yet (after all, Chee Kiang only has a laptop equipped with a Windows Media Player burner). What negligence, when music morphing features are already so comprehensive, covering almost all there could be to audio morphing!

And the developing music editing softwares are making the list even longer. Not long ago, mixers used to be limited to only 5 file extensions (.wav, .mp2, .mp3, .ogg and .wma). Now, the products of Audio4Fun and Sony support almost all the extensions there are (up to 14). Conversion of songs under different formats into as many types is no longer an edge, but a norm with these music editor-players.

Not only in quantity, but the quality of the output is also enhanced, with special attention to the pitch and timbre of the sound effects. And dont be surprised getting to know that some music morphers now allow you unlimited freestyle mix-and-match of customized extractions of songs (yes, you can extract all the best verses of your favorite songs to create your own mega-hit). This defining feature is perhaps best demonstrated in the AV Music Morpher Gold.

A hip mixer is one who plays not only good music, but his own good music as well. These music juke boxes take as good care of specific wants of the demanding DJ as that of his above-mentioned special needs. He could drive clubbers hysterically spinning by mixing his voice into any hip-hop favorites, and further adding built-in juke effects or any of his pre-mixed sounds. That is how far the music editors have been developed, to help DJs keep clubbers screaming for more.

Perhaps what distinguishes the music editing concept from other high-end digital streams (DVD morphing for instance) is that the technology is so user-friendly and complete that any average home DJ now can produce his own CDs, fully personalized, from music to CD cover. All Music Morphers of Audio4Fun support such thorough form of customization, though it is hardly seen elsewhere in the market.

So how has the market embraced these creative editing tools? There are over 10 major music software producers, with big names such as Audio4Fun, Adobe and Sony (Audio4Fun is more specialist, as Adobe is more known for its PDF readers while Sony is an omnipresent titan). Products are for sale from a mere $9.95 to only $99.95, about the price of a DVD player. Free downloads of music editing softwares are also available on the web (legally, of course).

The combination of an extensive supply chain, low pricing and numerous support features might herald an age of home recording audios, where home DJs savor unique mix-medleys that even the Zouk clubbers crave for.

Oh my, Chee Kiang is going to love it if I get him one such Music Morpher for his coming birthday

Physical Therapists Solution to a Rotator Cuff Tear that may help you Avoid Surgery

After a thorough physical examination, including x-rays, my Doctor diagnosed my arm and shoulder pain as a rotator cuff tear and naturally suggested immediate surgery. The Ultimate Rotator Cuff Training Guide by Physical Therapist Brian Schiff has so far saved me from having to go through that surgery.

After I heard the Doctors diagnosis and suggestion, I searched the library and the internet for non-surgical solutions. I may have found a possible answer. I started using Brian Schiffs Training Guide and followed his very explicit directions for the stretching, range of motion moves and exercises. I am in week 2 of a 4-6 week regime and have noticed a marked improvement.

In this article I am attempting to explain how this Training Guide has worked for me and would suggest that you to try this method before considering surgery.

Brian Schiff graduated from The Ohio State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree of Physical Therapy in Allied Health Professions. Since then, he has practiced as a licensed physical therapist specializing in sports medicine. Through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Brian became a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) in 1998.

By doing the exercises in The Ultimate Rotator Cuff Training Guide, I came to understand that it was a highly efficient system for relieving pain in the shoulder. Brian Schiff put together the guide for people with frozen shoulder, osteoarthritis, Rotator Cuff tendonitis, Rotator Cuff tears, impingement or bursitis.

Dont be intimidated by the fancy words, Brian explains what they all mean and how to use the exercises to alleviate pain. He goes into a detailed description of each particular problem and how to best use the different exercises to your greatest advantage.

There is one disadvantage. It is recommended that the stretching and range of motion moves be done everyday. To some this may seem daunting, but it is definitely worth it to work this into your daily schedule. This is not a magic pill; it will take at least 4-6 weeks to start feeling the relief from your regular routine.

In the Ultimate Rotator Guide one of its most valued points is that Brain doesnt just write out how to do each motion, he has pictures of him actually performing each move. This is extremely helpful in showing you the right form for each exercise. The right form is essential in making the motions work for you. So, not only does he outline how to do the moves in the eBook, he has added pictures in all aspects of each move. In the very beginning of the eBook he answers frequently asked questions that he knows from experience.

Another invaluable part of getting his eBook is that if you have any other questions you can email him. I did, and he always got back to me on the same day.

The Ultimate Rotator Guide is a truly concise map to overcoming shoulder pain. The eBook logically and easily pulls you through the process of using these exercises to eliminate pain in an attempt to avoid shoulder surgery.

Do not think this will instantly heal you, it will take practice. You must do the exercises on a consistent basis. It is critical that you follow the directions to achieve your goal of a pain free shoulder.

When I first started the program I thought that it was impossible to take this much time everyday. However, after the first week when I had practiced the moves it didnt take nearly as much time as in the beginning. I was able to smoothly do all the moves in less than thirty minutes.

Normally there are always some weaknesses in eBooks but I couldnt find any in the Ultimate Rotator Guide. My experience is that it is taking away most of my Rotator Cuff pain and is keeping me away from Rotator Cuff surgery. Remember, I am in week two and much has been accomplished.

Wouldnt you use a program that would take away most, if not all of your shoulder pain? If you want to learn how to strengthen your shoulder and relieve your aching I would highly recommend The Ultimate Rotator Training Guide. In fact, I give it 9 out of 10. I cant thank Brian enough for supplying this valuable information and hopefully saving me from surgery.

Search Engine Marketing Korea

The average Korean has more bandwidth, is online longer, and is quite efficient at extracting information out of the web. You would assume that their tool of choice would be Google. You would be wrong!

Quick overview of US Search Engine Market:
To Search Engine Marketers operating in North America and UK, the process of finding information is relatively straightforward. Go to Google or Yahoo, type in a query, look at the results. There is a choice between organic and sponsored listings( yahoo paid inclusion not withstanding), and most people pick one of the top few.
Eons ago, web designers in US wanted to show off their skills and had graphic heavy sites. Unfortunately for them, their bosses who were more interested in using the website as a sales tool, soon found that the fancy graphic sites took so long to load up on Janes dialup connection that she just went to the competitor to buy that widget. The content sites, who wanted to maximize their CPM revenues also wanted fast loading pages. Fast load, more page views, more money. Substance reigned supreme over style. Minimalism was the order of the day, and given the deep emotional scars people carry from the dial up days, to a large extent it still is an issue. It worked off to Googles advantageit is vastly easier for Google to evaluate the text and tags of a page for relevance to a query than to see if that cute flash is providing value to the user.

Korea is different:
You just have to see the Korean mobile games to see what I am talking aboutCraigslist is out, Hello Kitty is in. The average Korean user is a little like a power gamer in the US. Bring on the bandwidth! Net Caf is a booming business, and well, we all heard the story of a Korean gamer who dropped dead after playing 50 straight hours of online games (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4137782.stm ). Heart failure, stemming from exhaustion, was the official cause for this 28 year old.
Here in the US, we tend to think of glitz, flash and overdose of pictorial icons on a website as a glorified neon billboard. Superficial, been there, done that, not worth the bandwidth. We also use an alphabet to form words and to communicate and get informationthe pictures and the rich interface is distracting for us. The Asian culture, on the other hand has traditionally used characters or pictorial representation of whole words to communicate. As a result, a text only representation seems inadequate and therefore a sign of lack of technological prowess. I had a hard time convincing some of my Korean counterparts that Google is actually very popular despite its simplistic look. The one fact that helped my case was the stock price of Google and its market capitalization120 Billion dollars is well, 120 Trillion Korean Won. Unarguable!
The Korean Search Engine Marketing is dominated by naver.com. Much more so, than even Google dominates the US. To understand why naver is so successful, lets go into the details of how things work in Korea and how things differ from the US market.
When we are looking up something that interests us, we google it. Googling , a recently coined verb, basically means feeding some keywords in a omniscient benevolent search engine to get some results. Higher ranking usually means relevance to the query and therefore exposure.
In Korea, things work in the way Ask Jeeves wanted to work, but never managed to hack it. And they work well.

Why is Korea a winner take most search engine market:
The best way to describe Korean Search Engine users is trolling FAQs. The portals have a knowledge base, organized by questions. Wikipedia, DMOZ, Usenet and Google Answers, while great projects, pale in comparison to the knowledge iN of Naver. The system revolves around asking the portal a question, and there is a high likelihood of a lot of answers to that questions by people who cared to write on the subject. The user gets a ranked list of answers and can either choose to read the answers, or a list of similar questions. She navigates through the questions and answers allowing her to refine her search efficiently.
Naver has the most extensive database of questions, and therefore, it is logical for people to use it to get their answers. To get the most exposure, people tend to contribute there the most. Network Effect–giving naver a 75% share of the question answer market.

Downtown Seoul is a small place:
One would think that people who want to promote their products, thoughts would swamp the system with SPAM answers. Fortunately, they have some in built safeguards. All users must be registered to provide answers and their answers are rated by the community. The best answers rise to the top, and for widely asked questions its a more reliable way to rank than the back rub Google algorithm. Furthermore, the person who is rated high on a few answers gets a higher rap rating.
This is a very important point in the Korean culture. People want to be seen as ethical, wise and helpful. No one wants to be caught dead, seen as a spammer, self promoter etc. since everyone knows everyone else. The reputation and prestige is important, as it is in any web community including (say) Usenet. Usenet, it takes a while to gain reputation in a certain group. The Naver ranking software allows faster and more permanent feedback on the ranking of the person.

Problems of Navers model–Monetization and homogeneity:
If you are looking for organic listings on naver, you would be shocked. Hard to find, since there are so many sponsored links. The sponsored listings often blanket true results which in my opinion takes something away from the value of the portal. Furthermore, Korea is much smaller than the English speaking base of Google and has a much more homogeneous culture. The cacophony and diversity of opinion in Googles index is sometimes missing from Navers iN. These facts lead us to believe that Google may manage to rise from its anemic 10% market share eventually.

How To Buy A Car (Trust Me – I Used To Sell Them)

We Americans like to buy a car at the dealership in one afternoon, and the dealerships try very hard to make us think that is possible and even smart. But its not. Realize how big a purchase a car is. And it is complicated.

Buying a car is the second-largest purchase most people make after buying a home. When you buy a home, think about all the help you have: you have a broker to help you find the best home for you, and a mortgage broker to help you find the best financing. And an inspector to make sure the house is safe. Sometimes you also have an attorney to make sure the contract is fair, and a title company makes sure the title is clear before you pay for the home. But when you buy a car, there is not one person there to help you. And the dealers want you to THINK you can waltz in to the dealership and buy a car from start to finish in an afternoon and sure, you can, but you will pay much much more if you do it that way. Here are four tips to give you an advantage:

1. Make at least one trip to the dealership JUST to look around and drive the cars. Promise yourself you will not buy that first time, no matter what. Why? So that you can go home and look up information on the internet, including dealer cost, safety ratings, option prices, and any manufacturer to dealer incentives that the dealer has certainly not told you about!

2. Know what you can afford before you visit the dealership to buy! This means talk to your personal banker or credit union officer before going to the dealership. Why? Some dealerships might actually WANT you to sign on for a more expensive car than you can afford so that you will then default on your loan and they will repossess the car.

3. Whenever the finance manager calculates something, insist that he show you the calculation. Why? The easiest place for dealerships to take more money from you is in the monthly payment. It is VERY common for dealers to increase monthly payments by just a few dollars, even $20 per month, over about a five year period is like giving the dealership $500 extra on the spot.

E.G. If you tell the salesman you can afford a payment of $500 per month, he might find a deal for you in which the payment works out to $460 per month. But instead of telling you that, he might tell you that he has great news!! – - that your payment is down to $480. What happens to the $20 difference between the lender’ $460 per month and the $480 the dealer is charging you? It goes right into the dealers pocket, and you will never know it unless you Len how to run the calculation yourself, or at least run it by your banker. How much would a dealership make, taking in an extra $20 per month for five years, on a loan with an interest rate of 3.9%? About $500. It is next to impossible to figure this kind of thing out without a financial calculator, or a friend with a financial calculator. But its worth the trouble!

4. Write down everything you learn about the car, from the internet, magazines, and especially from the salesman. Why? Doing this keeps everybody honest, and literally on the same pageYOUR page! Your salesman will see that you are writing down everything he says, and he will be less inclined to lie, or to try to change information on you later on. This tip is all about staying in control.

Body Massage for Relaxation, Health Improvement and Sensual Pleasure

By massaging your friend or living partner and let him or her do the same to you, you will both get emotionally closer to each other, and both get several health benefits. Massaging will benefit the mental state of the person you work on, the muscular condition, the blood circulation and the lymph drainage. However, what you want to achieve, will determine the exact technique you use.

MASSAGING ACROSS THE MUSCLE FIBRES

This type of massage is very good for relaxing tense muscles and a stressed mind.

You perform this massage by rubbing or gripping across the direction of the muscle fibres or across tendons. You take one area after the other. You begin by massaging each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and more swiftly.

According to the size and conditions of the area you treat, you can use different types of manipulation. You can use a couple of fingers at a small area, or to reach deep into a tense point You can rub with all your finger tips or with the palm of your hand at greater areas. To get a harder effect, you can use your finger knuckles.

MASSAGING ALONG THE MUSCLE FIBRES

This type of massage will give the following effects: Stiffness will be reduced or cured, and the muscles will gain in mobility. The muscles will get better blood supply and drainage. The muscles will get a better drainage of tissue fluids into the lymph system, and thereby swollen muscles will normalize. These effects will in turn make tired muscles faster regain good condition.

By this massage you stroke along the direction of the muscle fibres, and always in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart.

Also now you take one area after the other, but try to reach the whole length of a muscle or muscle group at each stroke. Also by this massage, you begin massaging at each area lightly, superficially and slowly to warm up, and then proceed by massaging deeper, firmer and somewhat faster.

Also by this longitudinal massage, you can press down and stroke with your finger tips, with all your fingers, or grip around a muscle or muscle group with your fingers.

MASSAGE WITH AN ELECTRIC DEVICE

Most electric massage devices are vibrating up and down. This vibration mostly gives the same effect as the massage across the muscle fibres. If you also stroke with the device head along the muscle in the direction of the blood stream towards the heart, you will simultaneously also achieve the effects of longitudinal massage.

COMBINING THE MASSAGE WITH STRETCHING

The effects of the massage can be increased by also stretching the limbs and body parts of the person you work on. Stretch in the natural movement directions of the limb or body parts until you reach some resistance. Do not stretch hard to go beyond the resistance point. However, by holding the limb some time at the resistance point will often cause the limb to relax, and then you can go some way further.

HOW HARD SHOULD YOU PERFROM THE MASSAGE?

Tired and stiff muscles are often tender and aching. Working at a tender point will always cause some temporal pain. However, if you use the right degree of firmness, the effect of the massage should cause an immediate release of pain and tenderness when you have finished working at a point. You should never work so hard that the pain is felt nearly unbearable, or so hard that pain remains after the massage is finished. If you do so, you can hurt or aggravate already existing tissue damage.

To achieve the right firmness you should monitor the reactions of the person you work at and listen to his comments. You should also never perform a massage on an area with a distinct inflammation or a distinct injury.

USE OF MASSAGE OILS

By applying a massage oil or ointment at the area you work at, you ease the massage work and increase the effects of the massage. Your fingers glide more easily upon the skin covering the area. The blood supply of the skin and muscles will be stimulated. You get a sensual and exciting scent on the area and in the air. Ingredients in the oil will ameliorate muscular ache and pain. According to the composition of the massage oil, there will be different stimulating effects upon the muscles, for example faster regeneration of tired or hurt muscle tissue.

MASSAGE FOR MUTUAL PLEASURE

You can use each of the two main techniques, but you let the pleasure of the person you massage decide the technique, the area you massage and the firmness of the massage. Usually gently touching and caressing will be the right manner.

Also your own pleasure shall decide. Do not work so hard that you get tired out yourself, and the person that you give the massage should be willing to repay you by doing the same favour to you.

Choosing The Right College; Getting The Information You Need

The most important part of the college selection process is the initial identification of colleges and universities which are most appropriate for you. Soliciting recommendations from your school counselor is a good starting point, but there are many other valuable resources you should utilize.

Most guidance offices and public libraries have a collection of “generic” college guides with general information about individual colleges and helpful indexes enabling readers to quickly locate colleges offering particular majors, programs, and/or activities of interest. In addition, guidance offices and libraries are frequently well stocked with college catalogues, college viewbooks, and videos. Spend some time reviewing them.

There is even more, easier to access information on the internet. One of my websites (http://www.college-scholarships.com), for instance, includes a list of colleges by state with links to their websites and online applications, their toll free telephone numbers and email addresses, and more than thirty free online scholarship searches. Other sites let you search for colleges by major, location, and other criteria.

There are a number of magazines and college guides which “rank” colleges. Check them out, but do so with a grain of salt, as most knowledgeable educators consider their rankings and or evaluative methodology to be suspect.

In addition, there are at least a half dozen free publications which are mailed directly to students or distributed to guidance offices. While such magazines may be helpful in introducing you to colleges, bear in mind that they are supported by the colleges described therein, and even those that appear to “articles” about colleges are generally, in reality, advertisements written by the colleges or agencies compensated by them.

When you take the SAT or ACT – and I suggest you take them both as a high school junior – you will be asked questions about your high school grades and academic interests. If you indicate your willingness to allow the testing agency to release your name and address to colleges interested in students with your profile, you will probably receive a good deal of mail from colleges. Although there are no guarantees, particularly from the most highly select colleges, your chances of being admitted to the colleges which initiate contact with you tend to range from good to excellent. Students who review only the information sent to them by colleges with which they are already familiar miss an excellent potential opportunity to learn about institutions which may be a good “fit” for them.

Similarly, if you meet only with college admissions counselors (at your high school and at college fairs) from colleges and universities already on your list, you might miss out on some great colleges.

BaseBall Bats Americas Favorite Sport

Americas National Pastime reached its Zenith of glory by 1860s. Alexander Joy Cartwright modernized the game in 1845 to almost its present form. However, the specifications to baseball bats kept changing with each innovation and need. The innovations changed bat materials to the present aluminum alloy from the classical wooden.

Although whole of baseball gear has undergone a complete makeover, nothing has changed as much and as fast as the bat. There are many different kinds of bats designed for Little Leagues, Senior Leagues, college, and pros. Each coalition has a congeal of parameters for keg diameter and loop dimensions. It can be unconditional overwhelming when you consider the variety of baseball bat brands, materials, styles, and qualities.

Bat Materials
Basically there are three categories but enough for new comers to get bowled over.
Wood: generally willow wood from Canada and Australia goes into making bats for their good grain and fibrous structure. Seasoned wood is used to make bats which can be evidenced by the long fibers of wider nature. One biggest advantage of wooden bats is customizability as regards to barrel and grip. Contrary to beliefs, heavier wooden bats produce greater impacts than lighter bats by virtue of the momentum. But these are not crack free and the sweet spots get reduced after endured usage.
Aluminum alloys: Get ready to spend about $200 on these. These are stronger yet lighter and help generate greater swing speeds. The general alloy used here is 7046; but special alloys like CU31/7050 with higher zirconium, magnesium and copper content gives higher strength and durability. Ask for more choices in this category. Construction depends on the selling price; so we have single/double layered bats in different alloys for higher impacts, rebounds etc. In addition, cryogenically treated bats give lesser vibration and increased distance.
Graphite/Titanium lined: Beauty of this option is the lightest weight bats. Thinner walled bats lined with titanium/graphite provide desired strength and help reduce the impact shock of hitting the ball away from the sweet spot.

Specifications
USA Baseball, the governing body, issues charts for bat selection which benefits fresher. The bat can be chosen either by age or by your height. The charts are available at every baseball club and over the internet.

For age between 5-7 years the bat length recommended is between 24″-26″ which reaches 34 level for ages above 17 years. The other chart starts for a height of 36-40 with 26 bat till 73+ having recommended a length of 34.

Bats are just part of the game and not the game within themselves. Remember the saying, you can take the horse till the lake, but drinking water is his prerogative.

Summer Shape Up! 4 Alternative Weight Loss Solutions

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:05 am

I am embarrassed to admit how many different commercial weight loss programs I’ve tried. I’m sure you’ll nod in agreement when I tell you I’ve grown tired of talking heads touting empty promises. None of them helped me look the way I think I should and most of them left me agonizing over eating the same boring foods over and over. If you’ve been in the game for awhile, you already know the basics of exercise: train with resistance and train with cardio. When it comes to food though, what’s a body to do?

If you’ve been frustrated by commercial dieting take heart: In this article you’ll find a few not-so-commercial shape up tidbits. Ones that they don’t always tell you. Ones that I’ve found really work. So whether you need to lose a few pounds left over from winter or are looking for a healthy lifestyle change and are tired of the same-old routines, these four alternative weight loss solutions will help get you started.

Solution #1: Use Creative Visualization

Stimulating the mind to help your body achieve a desired result is a great way to bring about change. “Seeing” yourself thinner and imposing the mind with positive thoughts is one of the most successful ways to decrease your body size and improve body image. Known often as guided imagery, it works by training your mind to stimulate changes in your body. This can be accomplished by using some of my favorite tools:

Audio CD’s: If you are an auditory person, you will love the guided imagery and weight loss CD available from Donate Your Weight: www.donateyourweight.com. This CD is a combination of creative visualization, hypnosis and body affirming exercises. Join your host hypnotherapist Sheri Zampelli as she leads you though several positive body changing exercises. I use this CD often and love it. Not only does it stop negative body-image feelings in their tracks, but as a bonus the listener also receives a feeling of relaxation that lasts throughout the day.

Writing Affirmations: Using affirmations will train you mind by stating or affirming your intentions. It will retrain your thinking toward positive thoughts. When I use affirmations, I like to use positive statements such as these: My Body Is Beautiful! I Love My Body! To increase their effectiveness, I write these messages to myself on an index card or piece of paper and carry them with me. I review them several times throughout the day.

Books: One of my favorite positive affirmation books is Love Your Body! By Louise L. Hay available from www.hayhouse.com. Inside this book, Louise has created affirmations for you . If you read through them each day you are sure to reap the rewards of loving your body.

Solution #2 Try An Herbal Wrap

If you need to lose a few extra pounds, you may want to try an herbal wrap. Herbal wraps help the body lose water and inches. You can get a wrap from your favorite salon, however, they tend to be expensive. It’s just as easy to give yourself a spa treatment at home. Herbal wrap products are everywhere. If you’d like to get a wrap but prefer the privacy of your own home. check out www.slenderwrap.com

Some of the benefits of herbal wraps include:

- Weight loss
- Water loss
- Decreased inches
- Smoothness of tissue

Solution #3 Stop When You Are Full

In her book Appetites, Geneen Roth gives us a simple outline to manage portion control. Her two major mantras are: take time to eat and stop when you are full. These are both shape-shifting ideas. To some people, including myself, food is a friend. Therefore the tendency to overeat stems out of emotion: food provides comfort and security. Others are in a hurry. Food and the need to eat are just obstacles that get in the way.

In effort to break free from these unhealthy behaviors, ask yourself several questions:

Am I enjoying what I am eating? Do I eat standing up or on the run? Do I continue to eat even after I know I am full? Next, begin to carve out time to eat and enjoy food with friends or family. Or to take time to enjoy a nourishing meal even if you are alone. Eat to the point of being full, then stop. Most of the time, weight loss can be easily stimulated through portion control.

Solution #4 Keep A Food Journal

In addition to the aforementioned, it may be wise for you to keep a food journal. By tracking what you eat every day, you hold yourself accountable for everything you place in your mouth. it’s simple to start. Record everything you eat for a week and document your weight.

At the end of the week take inventory of yourself. have you gained weight? Lost? Remained the same? If you are gaining weight, simply cut back on your refined sugars (sweets) and heavy carbs like white rice or white potatoes. For these, substitute brown rice or sweet potatoes instead. Track your habits for a second week.

When you’ve reached the point in your eating program where your weight remains the same, you will need only consume a few less calories (Or burn a few extra during exercise) each week to lose weight. Keep in mind: in order to lose weight, your body needs to burn more calories than it consumes. Remember: First find you melting point, then adjust your portion control and exercise program accordingly.

In Conclusion: With just a few adjustments and an enjoyment of food by recognizing its beauty for nourishing your body and a conscious change in body image awareness, you can shift your focus from frustration to enjoyment. Give these alternatives to weight loss a try. Your health and your waist line will thank you for it.

Dealing With Fevers And Colds

When your baby has a fever or cold, your first urge is to run right to the pediatrician. But, mild colds and fevers are common, and often dont require a visit to the doctor, just some at home management. Here are some techniques to help manage colds and fever at home, and some information to help you know when to call the doctor.

First, most doctors dont consider a fever under 100F a fever at all, unless your baby is under two months old, in which case you should seek medical treatment with any fever. Otherwise, as long as the fever doesnt go above 102F, you need not treat it unless it is making your baby uncomfortable or unable to sleep. However, any fever which reaches 105 rectally, or a fever accompanied by signs of dehydration (infrequent urination, sunken fontanel, dry lips), or a feverish baby who has a stiff neck, is limp or has purple spots on the skin, should be treated by a professional immediately.

To treat a mild fever, try keeping your baby cool, using compresses or a tepid bath. Dress her loosely that old wives tale about keeping them bundled up is just that- an old wives tale. Feed her lots of fluids, and keep a watch on her. But, try to avoid the use of over the counter medications, unless your baby is unable to sleep. Fever is the bodys way of fighting infection, so, when possible, its best to let it do its job.

For minor colds, the best treatment is rest. However, your child may be unable to rest comfortably unless you treat the cold symptoms. A vaporizer can do wonders to relieve congestion, as can vapor treatments in the bath. But, if your child is really uncomfortable, using an over the counter cold medicine is fine. For dosage guidelines, follow your doctors recommendations, or those on the bottle, but go by weight, not age.

Colds should resolve themselves in a week or so, but if they do not, look for signs of an ear infection. These can include unexplained crying, especially when lying down, tugging the ears, or tossing and turning while trying to sleep. If you notice these symptoms, take your child to the doctor. Ear infections can be very painful, and are often hard to recognize in young children.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding his recommendations for treating colds and fevers, and when he believes you should call or come in. But, trust your instincts, and dont hesitate to call anytime you believe there is a real problem.

Ticket Tips on how to buy tickets from Premium Online Ticket Brokers

One of the best ways to secure a quality seat for an event is by using a ticket broker. Ticket brokers specialize in obtaining premium seats, but also at a premium price!

Always use an established ticket broker that is a good standing member of the BBB or other professional industry organization such as the NATB (National Association of Ticket Brokers).
Make sure that you know you are not dealing with the box office itself, rather a third party broker and know how brokers operate.
Ticket Brokers charge a premium price above what is listed on the ticket at the face value. They do not charge face value for tickets!
Ticket brokers will determine ticket prices by the supply and demand of each particular event. Tickets could range from a few dollars over the face value to hundreds of dollars above the face value. It all depends on the market value for the event.
Ticket brokers are much like travel agents or stockbrokers. They have access to everything you need to know about seating, venues, upcoming shows, and available tickets from industry sources.
Ticket brokering is a very competitive business. Look for a broker that provides good, professional and courteous service.
Ticket brokers will often only ship tickets to the address listed on your credit card billing statement. This is for your own
personal consumer safety. If an alternate shipping address is requested, ticket brokers may ask for a copy of a drivers license. Dont be alarmed, its a measure taken for your own consumer safety!

Ticket brokers provide a safe, secure and professional way to buy quality tickets. Just be prepared to pay a premium fee for the service they provide. Be sure to check out our recommended broker sites below:
