Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:18 pm

There are many avid skiers who grew up skiing as young children that make those adults new to skiing feel quite inept. Everyone has to learn, even if it is as a child. When thinking about learning how to snow ski, it is important to seek lessons with a reputable ski resort or well known private company that gives skiing lessons for a reasonable fee. Learning how to ski takes effort and practice, but with perseverance, you will be swishing the bunny slopes and aiming for the intermediate slopes in short order.

When learning how to snow ski, the best lessons are the ones given at one of the many reputable ski resorts. Snow skiing is their business and often the best of the best in ski instructors are on staff as such places. At ski resorts, you can choose from group ski lessons or private ski lessons. If funds and circumstances permit, learning how to snow ski through private lessons gives you plenty of one on one time with the instructor at hand to help in the practicing. Here are a few things you should look for in private snow skiing instruction:

  • Do you prefer the instructor to be male or female? It does not mean you are discriminatory if you prefer a male or female instructor. It is important that you will be comfortable learning how to snow ski with the private instructor, so pick one that will put you at ease.
  • Do you want to learn quickly and hit the slopes with abandon or would you prefer to take it slowly? Some instructors will teach you quickly, getting you out on the slopes safely but quickly as they stand by ready to assist. Other instructors spend more time getting you ready and practicing moves with you before ever hitting the slopes. Both ways can be effective and safe; it is a matter of your personal preference and bravado.
  • Lastly, be sure to check and double check your ski instructor’s qualifications. While trusting the ski resort to have done so in hiring the instructors, it is still a good idea to ask when you seek to sign up for learning how to snow ski lessons. Knowing your private instructor is well qualified will help ease your fears as a beginning skier.

How To Get Certified In Scuba Diving

The first two steps in getting certified in scuba diving is to make sure that you are a reasonably proficient swimmer and you get medical clearance from your doctor to take up the sport. As for the swimming, you dont have to master every type of stroke. Scuba certification only requires that you are able to swim about 200 yards using any stroke you want and to be able to float or tread on water for about 10 minutes. If you are in good general health and are comfortable in the water, then you should be able to scuba dive without any problems.

There are about 1,900 professional scuba dive centers in North America alone and your local ones should definitely be checked out. Most will run basic certification programs on a regular basis. These centers or shops should be listed in the yellow pages and you can also check with websites of some of the major scuba diving certification agencies such as PADI or NAUI as they will also have listings. Sometimes scuba diving courses are offered at universities too.

Make sure that the course you are interested in taking as well as its instructor are certified with one of the major scuba diving training agencies. This will ensure that you get proper, safe training for both the technical background knowledge and practical skills required for certification as a scuba diver. You also want to end up with an internationally recognized certification card if you want to go scuba diving at various locations around the world.

Some vacation resorts offer resort courses lasting a day or two which offer beginners some very basic training in order to try out scuba diving. These are not certification programs. Full certification programs involve classroom work, exams, practical skills sessions at a pool and usually about four open water dives in the sea (lake or ocean). The duration of the classroom work and pool sessions vary from a very intensive weekend (with advance reading) to once a week over several weeks. The open water dives will usually take two more days. Dive centers located in the tropics also offer basic certification programs that last several days to a week. Although the intensive weekend programs are quite feasible, many feel that basic scuba diving courses spread out over a few weeks will help beginners learn the skills better. Scuba diving does involve new skills and to learn them all during one full weekend may be too much for some people.

As for which scuba diving certification training agency is the best, there isnt any one recognized organization that is better than another. PADI is the most popular in the world but not necessarily better than NAUI or SSI. NAUI course are often more technical in the classroom than those offered by PADI but both will adequately train you to be a scuba diver. The more important factor would be the individual instructor and your own effort during training/studying. In fact, many scuba diving instructors have certifications from several training agencies.

For people living in the more northern regions, there are a few possible routes to take in order to obtain certification. One can travel down south to the tropics and do the entire basic certification course down there in warm weather. However, this will take up a good portion of a vacation since reading, classroom, pool sessions and open water dives all must be done during that time period. A second option is to take the entire course including the open water dives back in home territory. This usually offers beginners the most time since courses can be spread out over a few weeks. However, the water up north is not as warm as in the tropics and the scuba diving could be seasonal. A third option is to take all the classroom and pool sessions back home and then go down south to do the open water dives in warm waters. Many people have taken this route. Your instructor back home will give you a referral letter to bring down to an instructor located down south who will oversee your open water dives. This is a good combination of taking ample time back home to practice the skills in the pool plus getting the classroom work out of the way followed by having nice warm water to dive in for the open water dives. One thing to be aware of if considering this option is to make sure that your travel to the tropics for your open water dives is not too delayed after finishing up with your pool sessions at home. If too much time has elapsed, one could easily forget the skills learned in the pool by the time a vacation comes along.

The underwater world has so much to offer and only a small percentage of the worlds population will ever have the privilege to see it in person rather than on television. Become one of these individuals who will have the honor of exploring the oceans by getting certified in scuba diving.

Contact Lenses or Spectacles?

While plenty of people still wear glasses, there seems little doubt that theyre on the way out. Theres no doubt that putting them in and taking them out can be scary at first, but once youre used to it they are much more convenient than having bulky glasses on your face, not to mention almost invisible, even to people who get close to your eyes.

Vanity isnt the only reason to wear contact lenses, though. For many people, it is simply more practical they work better for sport or any kind of manual work, for example, where glasses could easily get damaged. Contact lenses are also not subject to the many things that can go wrong with glasses, such smashing, breaking, or being affected by the weather (when they get rained on, for example).

If youre just entering the world of contact lenses, though, it can feel like a bit of a maze. What should you get? Hard lenses or soft? Daily lenses or monthly?? Each option comes with its advantages and disadvantages.

The easiest question to tackle is probably that of hard lenses. While hard lenses are still used in many parts of the world, this is mainly down to reasons of habit people who are already using them are unlikely to switch. To the new user, hard lenses offer no advantages, and they are incredibly uncomfortable until you get used to them. It is much better to simply go with soft lenses.

When it comes to the question of whether daily disposable lenses are better, however, there is some controversy. Once you factor in the cost of cleaning solution for monthly? lenses, there is little difference in price, but some people simply prefer not to buy and throw away so many lenses. Ultimately, though, daily disposables tend to be thinner and therefore more comfortable, as well as costing you less if you happen to lose one, which makes them better suited to the beginner.

Laughing at the Indian Cricket Team

Indian cricket is headed for a disastrous World Cup and only those who wish to bury their head in the sand can think that they will do well there. The pitches in West Indies are fast and the players (who anyway have a tough time on such pitches) will succumb easily. They will advance (I truly hope so) to the next round by beating the weak teams but they will lose once again to the strong ones and they will find ourselves out and forgotten very soon. So instead of feeling sad, the only thing left for the fans to do is to joke about them. So here goes!

The Subway Series: A Wild Ride

This weekends Subway Series between the Yankees and the Mets was one for the ages. Not only did the winning team triumph by one run in each of the three games, but the series as a whole was about as exciting as it could possibly have been.

Game 1 on Friday night had blowout written all over it when Randy Johnson gave up 6 earned runs in 5 innings pitched. However, the Bronx Bombers battled back against pitcher Jeremi Gonzalez to keep it close.Gonzalez gave up 6 earned runs and 9 hits in only 3 innings pitched. The Yankees kept it close all game, only to have Mariano Rivera lose the game at the bottom of the ninth inning in a dramatic fashion on David Wrights walk-off single. The game was a nail-biter all the way through and kept fans glued to the game until the final play.At the end of the game, the Mets pulled out a 7-6 victory.

Game 2 on Saturday afternoon was more Yankee-friendly as Mets reliever Billy Wagner blew a four-run lead in the ninth inning to send the game into extra innings.Mike Mussina threw 7 strong innings, giving up 4 runs and 5 hits.Pedro Martinez dominated the Yanks by throwing 7 scoreless innings, striking out 8 batters and giving up only 4 hits.Maybe the Yankees are still Pedros daddy, seeing as how the Mets failed to secure the win.

It was Johnny Damon who beat out a potential game-ending double-play ball to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, capping off a four-run inning and embarrassing Billy Wagner; Wagner had dominated the Yankees during the previous game.Andy Phillips hit an RBI single in the eleventh inning, scoring Miguel Cairo and giving the Yankees a 5-4 lead.Mariano Rivera struck out the side, including David Wright, Cliff Floyd, and Xavier Nady, in the eleventh to give the Yankees the 5-4 victory and improve his record to 2-3.

Game 2 for the Yankees was a historic win that will not be forgotten anytime soon, but game 3 was an embarrassment that hopefully will not be remembered for very long.Granted the Mets only won by a score of 4-3, but the Yankees went 2 for 17 with runners in scoring position and left 15 men on base.Tom Glavine gave up 2 runs, 7 hits, and struck out 4 in 6 innings to give the Mets a victory and record his 282nd win.Aaron Small had a sub-par outing for the Yankees, giving up 7 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 strikeouts, and walked 1 batter in 4 1/3 innings pitched. The Yankees, for the third straight game, failed to hit a home run.

The Mets won the series 2-1, improved their record to 26-17, and are now preparing to host division rivals Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series starting on Tuesday. The Mets have a three-game lead over the Phillies for the best record in the NL East. The Yankees record now slips to 24-18 as they head up to Boston for a three-game series against their bitter rivals the Red Sox; the Yankees trail the Sox by 1.5 games for the lead in AL East.

How Is Online Video Changing The Entertainment Industry And Our Culture?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:23 am

It’s not news that the conventional entertainment industry is in trouble; there is falling viewership for prime time TV and people are just not as interested in what the local newspaper has to tell about world events as they used to be. The reason probably is access to the powerful tool called the internet. While the internet challenged through the vast knowledgebase it provided, now it challenges through visual entertainment as well. Of all the segments of the World Wide Web, the online video industry is one of the fastest growing forms of entertainment as well as marketing.

Windex and Food: Imperfect Together!

.a href=’http://www.hindraf.com/2011/11/24/worked-as-it-promised/’>.s tempting as it may be to use, Windex or any similar type product can be a hazard to use in the vicinity of food products, particularly cutting boards. If you do not have the proper sanitizer available, a certain secret common household item will suffice. Please read on to find out how you can keep your guests safe!

Our web community for business flight attendants can be frequently found discussing proper food handling and food safety tips. One lively discussion a few years back surrounded the proper way of cleaning a cutting board. Might I add that the food preparing area of the typical business jet galley is about the size of a two-by-four? Thus, food can easily get into contact with the wrong products if extra care is not taken.

In the conversation, one of our members remarked that she had cleaned her cutting board with Windex. Well, the ensuing responses to her comment nearly caused an online riot as many of our veteran fliers responded by emphatically stating that products such 409, Fantastik, and Windex can all be harmful if ingested. These and similar products contain high levels of white spirits or similar type toxins, something you never want your guests to come in contact with. These products typically carry warning labels that say something like the following, Do not ingest even in small quantities. Non-food safe.

Our beloved and uniformed newbie member was aghast, not at the replies, but at realizing that she had cleaned her cutting boards not once, not twice, but at the very least four or five times using Windex! Although no illnesses were reported because of her error, she quickly amended her cleaning methods from that point forward to use a special sanitizer designed for the safe cleaning of her cutting board. Naturally, all of our members were thankful that she was no longer a potential poisoner of the jet set crowd.

So, just what is that little secret common household item that can be used when the proper cleaning agent is no longer available? Actually, there are two: diluted white wine vinegar or . . . vodka! Yes, vodka can be used, but it does have the tendency of altering the taste of subsequent dishes . . . not necessarily a bad thing, but it does leave a residue. The recommendation, of course, is to have white wine vinegar on hand if a sanitizer is not readily available.

Please, please use the previously recommended cleaning agents only on surfaces that do not come into contact with food. You may not kill your guests, but you can certainly make them very ill by using the inappropriate products.

Beat Your First Speeding Ticket

It seems almost inevitable that if you’ve been on the roads for anytime, that you’ll find yourself with a speeding ticket. It’s never pleasant to be pulled over by a police officer and to have to hand over your driver’s license and insurance so that he can write you up a ticket that’s not only going to cost you some money but a piece of your pride as well.

Regardless of how we choose to look at it, speeding is breaking the law. For some drivers it’s a law that they break over and over again. However there are a large percentage of people that go years without a speeding ticket. For that group there is something they can be doing when they are stopped for speeding for the first time.

Each and every time a police officer pulls a motorist over for speeding the person’s identification is checked in the computer. There are numerous reasons this is done, but the reason that speeding motorist needs to be concerned with is how many tickets they have gotten for exceeding the posted limit in the past. This can be a crucial factor in whether the police officer writes you a ticket or just gives you a warning.

Depending on how fast you were going if this is your first infraction, the police officer might be inclined to just give you a warning. Often, that warning can have enough impact on the motorist that they will heed the advice and not speed again. No one wants to take the money that they worked hard to earn and have to hand it over because of a mistake. Many policemen and women realize this and that’s why if you’ve been driving for years and have never been ticketed, explaining the merits of driving within the limit is the only punishment they will feel that you need.

Another factor that weighs heavily in the officer’s decision on whether to write up the ticket is your demeanor and attitude. If you don’t take the situation seriously, the officer may feel inclined to go ahead with the citation because he or she doesn’t feel as though you’ve learned your lesson. Feeling that pinch in your pocketbook when you write the check to pay for the fine or hand over the cash to a clerk has much more impact on someone who doesn’t understand the seriousness of speeding. Therefore it’s important for you to show the officer respect, keep your composure and not admit to the speeding. In this case, the police officer sees that you’re not finding it funny to be stopped, that you realize that you have broken the law and that you understand the impact that it has on both your driving record and your insurance premiums.

If you are pulled over for the first time, remain calm and listen carefully to the police officer. If he or she does decide to give you a warning, pay close attention to what they are saying. They are never obligated to give a warning as opposed to a ticket for first time offenders, but if you handle the situation correctly, you might save yourself a few dollars while at the same time take that warning to heart.

Are Your Lifestyle Habits Killing You?

Are you one of the many Americans in life-threatening DANGER?!! Are harmful forces insidiously destroying the quality and length of your life? Do you even know whether your life is at risk?

Scientific and technological advances have greatly increased the average lifespan. With youth no longer short-lived, adults can now look and feel like theyre twenty, thirty years younger. Regardless, multitudes of Americans are excluding themselves from such opportunities. Fortitude: Health and Wellness Inc. reported that about 129 million people are overweight or obese. In 2000 17 million people had diabetes, and in 2003, only one year, 1.1 million people suffered from heart attacks. Heart disease is the first leading cause of death in the United States, and strokes are the third leading cause. It is time to become informed; often, these and many other ailments can be avoided. The fountain of youth may be only a myth. But with the right choices, you can come close to it.

An American Psychological Association (APA) survey found stress to have a direct relationship with the health problems in the countrys health concerns. Stress has the potential to impair health directly. However, as Americans handle stress with dangerous behaviors, stress indirectly becomes a major cause of unnecessary deaths. According to the American Psychological Association Practice Directorate, money, work, children, and the health problems of loved ones are the greatest causes of stress. Ironically, personal health was also included on this list. As many people worry about their own health, they in effect, increase problems and possibly shorten it. Tension and anxiety are often difficult to prevent, especially in todays society. However, by not using the following coping strategies as stress solutions, Americans can greatly increase their chances of a long youthful life.

Perilous Lifestyles:

As stressful lives lead to poor nutrition, people entrap themselves within a vicious cycle. With so many people constantly on the go, eating a healthy, balanced diet has become more difficult than ever. The American Psychological Association found a direct correlation between eating fast food and levels of stress. Fast food, detrimentally high in calories, high in saturated fats, high in sugar, and low in whole grains, frequently becomes the norm. Proclaiming solutions to this nutrition deficient, too many fad diets focus on weight loss at the expense of nutrient assurance. According to the APA survey participants, one out of every four people relied on “comfort foods” when feeling stressed. Prolonged periods of anxiety cause the body to feel tired. Popular “comfort foods”, such as chips and ice cream, which contain un-complexed carbohydrates and high levels of fat, fail to serve as good energy-sources. The mere short boosts of energy caused from high sugar contents only leaves the body with greater feelings of exhaustion. Insomnia, mood swings, hypoglycemia, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weakened immune systems have a tendency to result from the combination of stresss negative blood-sugar affects and the addition of a high-sugar diet. Needless to say, further complications, such as depression, diabetes, and obesity, often develop. Within an environment of such poor health, chances of congested heart failure greatly increase. The APA survey found that sixty-five percent of people whom relied on comfort foods were overweight and had twice the chance of potential obesity. Obesity, Americas severe growing epidemic, continues the negative chain by exposing the body to even further health complications.

Nevertheless, healthy, low-risk lifestyles need more than nutritious food in the diet; vitamins and supplements are essential. Todays society makes it virtually impossible for even the most dedicated health food loyalist to receive all proper nutrients from food alone. For one it becomes more and more difficult to find healthy quick, dining-out food, but the hectic schedules of personal and professional life greatly decrease consistent home-cooked menus. Secondly, popular un-organic methods of growing, raising, and processing inevitably lose some of the natural nutrients. While compensating for nutrients lost and ignored in meal plans, vitamins also serve as natural and holistic alternatives to medications and offer solutions to medication shortcomings. There are many naturopathically trained physicians that can construct vitamin programs suited for individual needs.

Drastically causing health complications and premature deaths, cigarettes continue to bring a great threat to society. Even with all the research proving their dangers, cigarettes and other forms of tobacco are still used by a large percentage of Americans. Often attracting people bothered by stress, cigarettes too can actually increase feelings of anxiety. Including problems such as depleted bone density, emphysema, lung cancer, and heart disease, the risks of tobacco are innumerable. Until the elimination of tobacco, Americans will never achieve the possibility of a long healthy life.

Sedentary jobs and interests focused around televisions, video games, and computers continue to decrease activity levels. Public and personal transportation enables greater distances to be covered, and the transportation modes of walking and bicycles become less frequent. However, although societal changes largely reduce exercise opportunities, Americans must find ways to remain active. The lack of exercise is greatly responsible for the rapidly increasing rates of American obesity. Further, without activity people will not have the strength or endurance to maintain youth or longevity. Walking wherever possible and exercising at a gym serve as alternatives. Not only offering countless health benefits, but exercise also provides positive outlets to diminish stress. Activities such as yoga offer exercise while directly aiming at stress reduction.

Stress may be overwhelming, but the health problems caused from unhealthy reactions may be deadly. Modern society may pose an increasing number of obstacles, but you do not have to become a victim. By choosing nutritious foods, vitamins and supplements, and exercise and by avoiding tobacco, a long life of youth is more possible than ever. Start avoiding or reversing the danger in your life today.

Finding The Right Property Rental Software

If you run or manage a busy property rental agency, then you may be considering buying some software to automate the lettings process making your office more efficient and cost-effective. There are many different software packages on the market, so how do you choose which is right for you? When you are looking at software suppliers, ask the following questions:

1. Do you offer a free trial?

Software developers and suppliers who are confident about the quality of their software will usually offer a free trial. This lets you see exactly how the software would work in the context of your business, and allows you to compare it with other packages you may have worked with or trialled previously. Software can be expensive, and you should always try and see it in action before you buy.

2. What about staff training?

It can be difficult to get to grips with new software, particularly for staff who are used to working with a different package, or who are not confident using computers. A good property rental software company should offer training to everyone who is going to be using the system. That way, the company can be sure that the software is being used in the right way, and the letting agents are confident that staff are happy using the system.

3. Is it flexible?

There may be elements of the standard software package that arent applicable to your agency; or you may have additional requirements that arent included. Ask the software company if their package can be tailored to your needs and those of your business.

4. Do you provide software support?

Most software packages have times when they dont do what the users expect them to. As the manager of a busy agency, you need to know that if something goes wrong with the system, there will be telephone and on-site support from the software company. In some cases, support will come as part of the package and in others you may incur a fee. Find out how your supplier works.

A new software solution is an expensive commitment for any agency. Before you decide to buy, make sure youre confident that what youre getting is right for you.

Why your site is not making money

Many people often asked, Why am I not getting sales, nobody is signing up, I am not making any money, what is going wrong?

Something is actually wrong. You see, when youve developed a product, registered a domain name, hosted your site, and solved issues like payment processor, you have to wait for the money to start rolling inonly then you will know the value of traffic.

No matter how beautiful your site or how crazy your product, without traffic your online business will fail. Generating traffic is the most difficult part of running an online business. But why is getting traffic so difficult? There are two main reasons.

The first reason is that online is not like the real world where you can rely on mere shop display. If you dont make any calculated sales drive, people cannot find your site. The second reason is that the Internet has changed.

Internet advertising keeps advancing with many kinds of filters to make sure the right audience sees the right message. That is, to make sue you dont disturb people who dont want your ads. Traffic providers like Google can easily tell junk content from real content even if the surfers cannot. Nobody wants to give you the chance to succeed online.

There are about 6 billion people on the planet with about a billion using the Internet but sadly most sites have little traffic and make $20 to $50 a month. So how does one really get traffic?

You will not get traffic while sitting on your pajamas, feet up on your desk, sipping your coffee. You need to work very hard. To get massive traffic, people should be able to find your site virtually everywhere hence you need a broad, multi-faceted marketing campaign. Dont rely solely on search engine ranking otherwise you are leaving 90% traffic.

Research as many traffic techniques as you can and experiment with as many as possible. Though it will cost you time and money, it is all an investment. Nothing comes easy, especially financial success.

Respect Your Child’s Fever, But Please Don’t Fear It

Copyright 2006 Mike Patrick Jr, MD

Your one-year-old is unresponsive. Her eyes roll back. Her arms and legs stiffen. She begins to jerk and twitch. You are suddenly shaky yourself as panic and fear grab hold. You snatch her up in your arms and discover her skin is hot to the touch. You don’t understand. She hadn’t been sick–until now. You rush to the phone, but aren’t sure who to call–911, the doctor, your husband, your mother? By this time, the twitching has stopped, her muscles have relaxed, and her eyes have closed. Like a spring tornado, the convulsive episode came and went in a flash, leaving you with an unarousable child and a whole lot of questions, the first of which is, “What do I do now?”

Witnessing a febrile seizure is a frightening experience. As a parent, you are helpless to control the unfolding situation. I am reminded of my daughter’s seizure several years ago. We had packed everything in the apartment and were preparing to move into our first house the following day. Excitement filled the air. Our daughter was 15-months old at the time and she felt a little warm. But we couldn’t take her temperature or give her Tylenol because when I say everything was packed, I mean everything was packed.

The dinner hour beckoned, so my wife volunteered to swing by the drug store on her way to KFC. That was fine by me. Katie wasn’t exactly what you’d call a cuddly baby. The low-grade fever had relaxed her temperament, and I took advantage of the situation, rocking her to sleep in my arms.

While waiting for my wife and the chicken to return, Katie woke up. But her eyes weren’t looking at me. Instead, they were forced high up in the sockets as if she were inspecting the hairs on her brow. Her tiny body became stiff and started to twitch, and I realized she wasn’t really awake at all. I remember her body suddenly burning like fire and I remember feeling helpless to do much of anything about her fever or the seizure.

Typical of most febrile seizures, the episode passed quickly, but it left me with a lasting impression of the experience. I understand why fever, and the prospect of a resulting seizure, scares parents.

Yet, you really shouldn’t be afraid. Fever is a normal function of our body, aiding in the elimination of infection. It should prompt you to seek a medical opinion regarding the source of the fever, but it shouldn’t scare you. And why not?

Well, only 4% of the population will ever have a febrile seizure. That means your child has a 96% chance of never having a fever seizure, even with temperatures in the 104-105 degree range. The chances, however, do increase slightly if other children in the extended family have a history of seizing with fever.

Also keep in mind that there’s little you can do to prevent a febrile seizure. This is because most of them occur at the very onset of an illness, with the first temperature spike. In these cases, the seizure is the first sign your child has a problem.

When febrile seizures occur, they tend to be brief (a few minutes that seem like an eternity) and uncomplicated. Your child may be sleepier than usual for an hour or so after the episode. Also, having a febrile seizure increases the odds of having another one sometime in the next few years–about one-third of kids with a febrile seizure will have a repeat episode. Will your child go on to develop epilepsy (seizure without fever)? It’s unlikely. Only one in one-hundred kids with febrile seizures will go on to have a lifelong seizure disorder.

How about brain damage. Nope. Neither high fevers nor febrile seizures cause brain damage. However, brain damage can lead to fever and seizure.

So back to the question on every parent’s mind: What do I do during and after a febrile seizure. During the seizure, you want to make sure your child is in a safe place and breathing fine. If there are breathing difficulties, call 911. Start rescue breathing if your child is apneic or blue (a CPR course through the American Red Cross is a good idea for any parent). But realize this situation is extremely rare.

After the seizure, you should call your child’s doctor. He may have you go to the emergency room or might see you in the office.

Witnessing a febrile seizure is scary–take it from me, a Dad and Pediatrician who lived through one. But in the overwhelming majority of cases, all is well in the end. Sure, we treat fevers in kids, but our primary goal is making your child more comfortable, not preventing a seizure. God made fevers for a reason. They have a purpose. Since seizures are a rare occurrence with fever, and since they are generally brief and without complication when they do occur, you should respect your child’s fever, but please don’t fear it.

Obesity Treatment: Rx for Fat Loss

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — admin @ 4:12 pm

Changing food into fat looks very simple for most people. Shaking them off the body is absolutely easier said than done, and to get done with it, you have only four options:

1. Lessen the amount of food that you eat and maintain an active life
2. Boost your activities and maintain the food intake at an unvarying rate
3. Merge both forces by dieting and exercising at the same time
4. Seek obesity treatment and stop the problems

It may all sound too easy. However, when the number of people accumulating more fat that they can burn continues to increase, obesity becomes a serious disease. At this point, it is important to seek some medical help immediately.

The problem is that many people tend to become professional dieters. They peel off pounds with the current fad diet, only to put the weight back on after reaching their goals and return to the habits that made them fat in the first place.

But people cannot just blame their fat on food. In one study of the causes of obesity, researchers found that only 3.2% of obese people became fat because of increased food intake. In 67.5% of the cases, inactivity was associated with the onset of obesity.

Obesity Treatment

Today, there are more obesity treatment methods than there are a few years back. That is why people can make better choices. They no longer have to stick with just one treatment just as what their friends have said so because what worked for their friends may not necessarily work for them.

Treating obesity is a matter of choosing the right approach that will work best for ones body. Many factors must be considered in order to achieve the best obesity treatment possible.

Obesity treatment strategies may range from the simplest to the most complicated method of therapy. Nevertheless, with the right choice, obese people will always find feasible means to end their woes.

Heres how:

1. Talk to the expert

Always consult your doctor before seeking any treatment. A good obesity treatment lies on how it will be effective when applied on you. Thus, it is important to consult your doctor to analyze and evaluate your condition and come up with a better form of treatment.

2. Know how much weight you want to shed off

Most failed regimen of losing weight is factored in the tendency of most dieters to lose weight without having an ideal amount of weight to shed off. When experts say they should have a goal, they just focus on that lose weight.

The point is that in order to identify the correct obesity treatment, it is important that you know how much you really want to lose. From that point, you and your doctor can work together in assessing and evaluating strategies that will work best for you.

3. Assess your problems

It is extremely important to know what brings about obesity in a particular individual. Of course, most people would say that excessive intake of food is the ultimate culprit. What they do not know is that there are various underlying problems causing obesity.

If you tend to eat too much calories and you are not even aware of food labels, the types of food, and the different effects they will have on your body, it is best that you go for a dietary treatment.

If you are living a sedentary life and should be exercising more to burn those accumulated and stored fats, then it is time for you to undergo a serious physical activity.

If you tend to binge on foods whenever you are depressed, behavior therapy is the right approach to lose weight. There are many people these days that tend to eat more whenever they are depressed.

All of these things are focused on helping obese people to lose weight finally. The point here is that the only problem why obesity seems too hard to combat is that wrong approaches of obesity treatment have been employed.

So the next lose-weight prescription that doctors should recommend in order to treat obesity will now be based on these factors and nothing else.

Review Of Lemon Jelly – 64-95

Track listing:

’88 AKA Come Down On Me
’68 AKA Only Time
’93 AKA Don’t Stop Now
’95 AKA Make Things Right
’79 AKA The Shouty Track
’75 AKA Stay With You
’76 AKA The Slow Train
’90 AKA Man Like Me
’64 AKA Go

North London duo Fred Deakin and Nick Franglen AKA Lemon Jelly return with their unique brand of downbeat madness, melody and whimsical humour.

They’ve come a long way since 2000′s debut album “KY”, a compilation of their first three limited 10″ vinyl EP’s. A rapidly expanding fanbase and the release of 2002′s “Lost Horizon’s” were quickly followed by a Brit and Mercury Music Prize nominations. All of this would have undoubtedly piled the pressure on for their next album release, ’64-’95, built around a selection of samples spanning those very dates.

The boys appear to have been up for the challenge delivering a wholly traditional Lemon Jelly album but unlike one we’ve seen before. Whilst there is still the abundance of annoyingly catchy piano loops, samples and simplistic melodies that have served them so well in the past, ’64-’95 immediately appears more mature. Whilst not as instantly likeable as “Lost Horizon’s” this ensures greater longevity and is probably all the better for it.

Long, slow-building tracks like “Only Time”, “Don’t Stop Now” and the aptly titled “The Slow Train” are interspersed with Lemon Jelly’s own guitar anthems, “The Shouty Track” which samples Scottish punks The Scars and the Chemical Brother tribute track “Come Down On Me” which uses samples from the now defunct heavy-metallers Master of Reality. Additional contributions from Terri Walker and Star Trek’s very own William Shatner ensure that the boys deliver the kind of eclectic album we’ve now come to expect and love.

This is the first album they’ve made with an accompanying DVD, lovingly created by Airside, the design company consisting of 50% Deakin. All very incestuous but it really does work well. Now, in addition to the previously unique “Jelly” packaging & artwork, we are given visuals to enhance each track. How nice of them!

Fly-fishing, A Fun Sport

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 2:21 am

Fly fishing is an ancient angling method especially effective in catching trout and salmon. This distinct method of angling uses artificial flies to lure or excite fish. This helps anglers catch the fish easier than the traditional way.

There are two basic forms you can use, dry flies and wet flies.

Dry flies need coating with floatant in order for it to sit in the surface of the water. Dry flies are mostly effective in upstream and moving water. Dry flies help anglers’ spot where fish resides like pools and pocket in streams. Thus, it is easier to detect them and catch the fish.

The use of wet flies is beneath the surface of the water. Wet flies are nymphs, lures and true wet flies. It works as effective as dry flies except that in cases where weeds are many and almost touching the surface, wet flies blends with the weeds and thus may not be as effective as the dry flies.

Fly fishing was developed in the 19th century, dry fly technique is very effective especially for slower and clearer rivers.

This is because weeds in rich rivers tend to grow closer to the surface, thus traditional wet fly fishing is almost ineffective. Dry fly fishing is thus useful by keeping the fly and the line floating on the surface. This makes fish excited and aggressive; the angler can then spot the location of the fish and in turn catches fish easier.

Later developments of fly fishing made this concept as basis, thus in the latter part of the 19th century, anglers develop love for this form of fishing. This gave birth to the sport among its aficionados.

Various parts of the United States host fly fishing sports such as in the waters of Catskill Mountains of New York and the provinces of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, British Columbia, Alberta and California.

Anglers in North America also develop various literatures pertaining to fly fishing. The sport of fly fishing and all these literatures gave North America the reputation of being the birthplace of dry fly fishing, specifically the City of Calgary, Alberta. It is arguably one of the world’s best trout rivers, thus it remains to be the epicenter for the Western Fly Fishing in North America.

Various other states in America keeps the growing number of fly-fishers such as Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Arkansas. The growing number of anglers that are drawn to the sport keeps the popularity at its peak.

Dry or wet fly fishing, whichever is more effective in the rivers where you fish will help keep the sport exciting. It may not be long that other countries will learn to love the sport and make it a globally loved sport.

This Type of fishing uses longer and lighter rods; sizes vary from 2m (6 ft) for fresh water and up to 4m (14 ft) for salt water use. Weight for fresh water rods are between two to five ounces.

Popular types of casts follow its variety in situation specifics. Anglers uses common cast when the angler whisks the fly rod forward and back using his forearm and upper arm, the wrist is used to soften the motion.

The rod movement varies from 10 o’clock position to 2 o’clock position without touching the ground. Anglers do this to load the rod tip with energy and to travel the fly line creating distance and control; they call this motion false casting.

False casting needs to be done to excite the fish or make it aggressive enough so that when the fly touches the surface, it will be sure that the area where the fly touches is where most of the fish are located and thus will be easier to spot and catch them.

Whether you are a fishing aficionado for outdoor excitement or having fun with your family, using the proper equipment will help you develop love for the sport. Keep it exciting and enjoy fishing at its finest in most popular fly fishing locations in the country. There are many locations, thus you will not have a problem in spotting nice locations for you and your family for this wonderful outdoor adventure.

In Response To Miniaturization, Human Hands Get Smaller

Scientists report that human hands, which must currently struggle with ever smaller keypads and buttons on high-tech paraphernalia, have begun to grow smaller.

Unfortunately, the adaptation is not yet complete, and most human beings are still encumbered with normal-size hands. As a result, they must put up with a certain amount of infuriating digital clumsiness.

Ever attentive to how they might help improve the human body, plastic surgeons have begun to offer a variety of hand-reduction procedures, which range from the conservative approach of washing them in hot water and then desiccating them with hairdryers to the more radical procedure of hand-reduction surgery.

One eminent plastic surgeon noted, Many people dont realize the mental and physical toll it takes on a person with a normal-size hand to deal with a cell phone or other piece of high-tech equipment that looks as if it was designed for a midget. My guess is that the reduction in stress that these new procedures allow will also lead to greater longevity, due to an expected reduction in blood pressure and heart attacks.

A delighted early adapter of hand-reduction surgery commented, Wow, now my hands are so small I can whiz around the keypads on my stuff like an ant with ten legs. Im looking forward to new gizmos that will be even smaller. Im all ready for them.

There have been some notable holdouts, where large hands are a real plus, particularly among jazz pianists and basketball players.

Living With A Food Allergy

Living with a food allergy can be a daunting experience. Many people have a food allergy which ranges from mild to severe. There are people who experience a light red rash after eating something they are allergic to while others can face death if they even touch the food that causes their allergy.

A very common type of food allergy is to eggs. Many children develop this food allergy when they are infants. The parents have to be conscious of each and everything the child consumes. This means reading all the labels of the foods that you serve the child and informing the child care provider and school of the allergy. Egg substitute can be used when baking cakes or breads so the child doesnt feel left out.

A food allergy to eggs is usually outgrown. The child may experience the symptoms for several years and once they have matured the parent in consultation with a physician can reintroduce egg products into the childs diet.

Another food allergy that is common in infants is an allergy to wheat. This again, is an allergy that children tend to outgrow but until that time every product they consume has to be checked to see if it contains wheat. The obvious offenders are things like bread and muffin but there can be wheat in other products including breakfast cereals and even some types of candy.

A food allergy that can be very severe is an allergy to peanuts. When a child or an adult has a peanut allergy there is a chance that they can go into food anaphylaxis and die. Although peanut allergies are one of the most common types of food allergy there are still people dying each year from unintended exposure to peanuts.

Its vitally important for parents to warn their child about the dangers of peanuts if they do have this particular type of food allergy. The child might not be old enough to fully grasp the consequences but as they mature its very important to constantly remind them that they can become very ill if they eat anything that has peanuts in it.

Many schools now have a no peanut policy. They have enforced this because of the children that suffer from a peanut food allergy. Children are not permitted to bring certain food items to school including peanut butter sandwiches or chocolate bars that contain peanuts. Although some parents complain about this restriction it should be viewed as more of a life saving measure.

When a person grows up with a food allergy they quickly become aware of what foods they can and cannot eat. Part of this stems from the repeated reminders of the parents but it also comes from the child and later adults desire to remain healthy.

If someone in your home does suffer from a food allergy its wise to keep that food out of the home completely. One of the reasons is obvious and thats the person with the allergy will be safer without the offending item in their presence. Another good reason to refrain from purchasing the product is that the person with the allergy wont feel left out if no one in their family is consuming the thing they cannot have. Think of it as a wonderful way to support them.
